Traveling with a wedding attire

To read while shopping

We often get asked about renting wedding attire for Paris elopements, but we can't recommend it. While dress rentals work well when you're planning at home with time for fittings, they aren’t ideal for couples visiting Paris for just a few days.

Unfortunately, we don’t know any rental services in Paris that are tourist-friendly.

The best option is to finish all alterations before you leave and travel with your dress and suit. Here are some tips for traveling with your wedding attire.

to rent or to buy?

A carry-on garment bag is great for keeping your dress wrinkle-free. You can find rolling or shoulder versions, both designed as carry-on luggage. Search for 'travel garment bag' on Amazon or eBay. Also, call your airline to ask if they can safely store your gown.

Ask your bridal shop to professionally pack it with tissue paper.

Pack Your Dress

Hang your dress and suit right away to let any wrinkles fall out. If you want extra peace of mind, you can even buy an extra seat on the plane for your gown.

Unpacking in Paris

A small travel steamer is handy for touching up your dress. They work well on delicate fabrics and are easy to pack. Search for 'portable travel steamer' on Amazon or eBay. Don't forget, you'll need an electrical adapter for France.

Portable Steamer

  • Hotels: Most 4- and 5-star hotels in Paris offer dry cleaning services. Confirm this before booking and ask if they can handle your dress and suit in time for your wedding day.
  • Airbnb: Ask about an iron or steamer before booking. If needed, local dry cleaners (called 'PRESSING') are available but can be expensive and take up to 48 hours. Be aware that services can cost €300-400 or more.
